ICE Targeting of Group Homes and Senior Care Facilities separates Elderly and Infirmed from their full-time Caregivers

As of December 2007, a trickle of intakes at Asian Law Caucus (ALC) has raised suspicion around very small ICE raids targeting group homes and senior care facilities in Union City and Hayward. The cases are specific to Filipinos that work and live in homecare facilities. Most of the workers were picked up at their workplace by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and placed on detention and deportation orders. None of them had prior criminal convictions, and only 1 had a final order of deport.

Filipinos for Affirmative Action's homecare worker organizing project has been visiting homecare facilities to outreach to live-in Filipino homecare workers in Union City. We are teaming up with ALC to distribute worker rights and ICE raid know your rights information. We are collecting stories of caregivers, employers and/or patients that have been impacted by ICE raids.

If you or someone you know has been impacted by an ICE raid, please contact Katie Joaquin at 510-465-9876 x301. In addition to collecting stories, FAA can also provide community support and referral to legal representation.
